Send inaudible messages using loudspeakers
What are Beacodes?
Beacodes are like QR codes. Both can contain short messages that can be read by your mobile device. Unlike QR codes which are transmitted visually, Beacodes are sent using specially crafted sound that is inaudible to human ears, yet fully “audible” to mobile device microphones.
What can I do with them?
They can be used for fully cross-platform ad-hoc communication. Instead of enabling WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC or a QR code scanner, you can just send a Beacode! It will work on all platforms, even on old devices.
You can use loudspeakers or a smartphone to transmit a short message (1-63 bytes) to any mobile device in the area, including Android, iOS and Windows Phone based devices. This can be any text message, an URL, email address, geographic location, etc.
You can even mix Beacode signal with music and other audio content. Beacodes withstand lossy audio compression of AAC, MP3, Ogg Vorbis and Opus.
